42 Hexagonal Basin Units were installed at the seawall at the public pier in Lei Yue Mun. The Hexagonal Units were designed to reduce wave energy and provide habitat for intertidal species. In 12 months the Hexagonal Units bioaccumulated 41 species, including 13 unique species. Anemones, oysters, crabs, tube worms, and mussels now occupy the basins, forming unique microhabitats that dramatically improve the seawall’s biodiversity.
